Reach Out and Read

Family Resources is partnering with Reach Out and Read to get books to children and families in Eastern Washington. Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud during visits to the doctor’s office.

“We are thrilled to be working with Reach Out and Read” said Kathy Thamm, Director for Family Resources. “It is a great program and we think it will really take off in Spokane County and in Eastern Washington” Thamm adds.

Reach Out and Read recently expanded in Spokane County adding the Deer Park CHAS Clinic in March. It joins long time Reach Out and Read sites at the Fairchild Air Force Base and the Kids Clinic on Spokane's South Hill. A local hospital is looking to add Reach Out and Read as well.

Please visit the Reach Out and Read website for details, or visit KREM 2 for a video interview about the program. You can read an article by the Spokesman-Review titled "Deer Park doctor provides prescription for literacy" here.
